Goose bump ending

I've read this book a zillion times. I just finished it for the zillionth and one. And it rocks. I'm sitting here in study hall wanting to tell the form 3 kid next to me that this book is brilliant and crazy and fantastic. What an ending. I can't wait to talk about the twists and turns and images and impact of the last three chapters.

  1. I'm not so sure if I liked the ending. It seemed to be abrupt and without warning. I feel many of our questions we have been talking about throughout the book weren't answered directly but they still have implied answers.

  2. I thought the ending was very conclusive, at least for the purpose of the story line (and so it satisfied me); it was Rebecca's last emasculation of Maxim, her taking from him the last thing he had. First she took metaphysical things like his dignity, pride, manliness, and then even after death, she steals his only meaningful worldly possession: his home. And not just any home; one he shows off and uses to identify himself, the real-life symbol of his manliness. However, as Jack said, this ending leaves many questions unanswered. But in terms of my area of interest, regarding power struggles within the relationships of the novel (the primary one being Rebecca and Maxim), this was the finale to top it all off.
